Ягуар без леса

Он бежит,
хотя подвешен.
Он пляшет
там, где сеть мерит вес.
Каменная пасть.
Башни приношений.
Ступени.
Корни, лианы —
арматура, бетон.
Где джунгли растут
без земли.
Он помнит лес
кожей, дыханием,
дрожью в колене.
Но лес ушёл —
в чёрный дым,
в стекло,
в цемент.
И он всё бежит.
Бежит,
как бегут звери
в затмении,
как дети бегут
из страшного сна.
Он знает:
страх — ржавый гвоздь,
вбитый в сердце.
И он пляшет,
как пляшет огонь
в пустом небе.
А город берёт
дыхание, имя.
Берёт память —
о дереве, о воде.
Человек всё берёт.
И однажды услышит,
как мир скажет:
«Меня больше нет,
и мне нечего
тебе дать».
И тогда останется
только тело,
бегущее без земли.
Ягуар без леса.
Сын страха —
и всё же не храм ему.
Jaguar Without a Forest

He runs,
though hanging.
He dances
where the net measures weight.
Stone throat.
Towers of offering.
Steps.
Roots, vines —
rebar, concrete.
Where the jungle grows
without earth.
He remembers the forest
in skin, in breath,
in the knee's tremor.
But the forest is gone —
into black smoke,
into glass,
into cement.
And still he runs.
Runs
as beasts run
under eclipse,
as children run
from the dream
that hunts them awake.
He knows:
fear is a rusty nail
driven through the heart.
And still he dances,
as fire dances
in an empty sky.
The city takes
breath, name.
Takes memory —
of tree, of water.
Man takes and takes.
And one day he will hear
the world say:
“I am no more,
and I have nothing
left to give you.”
And then only the body remains,
running without earth.
Jaguar without a forest.
Son of fear —
and yet no temple to it.
